Our Story

Tax-Optimized Planning Solutions was founded by a team of seasoned financial professionals who recognized a persistent gap in the third-party administrator industry. The most sophisticated business owners, those who had outgrown standard retirement planning, were too often handed off to TPA firms that lacked the technical depth, the actuarial credentials, or the willingness to design plans calibrated to each owner’s specific situation.

Our founders, Brent Gordon and Sergio Pessoa, both Certified Financial Planner® professionals, have spent the better part of two decades serving high-income business owners and their families. They built Tax-Optimized Planning Solutions to do one thing exceptionally well: design and administer qualified retirement plans that deliver measurable results, backed by credentialed actuarial expertise, strict regulatory compliance, and a client experience that respects the time and intelligence of every business owner we serve.

Headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, our team is intentionally distributed across the country. Our partners, actuary, investment leadership, and operations professionals work from Albuquerque, El Paso, northern New Jersey, Illinois, and Texas. This national footprint gives us direct visibility into the regional industries we serve, including medical practices, agricultural operations, professional services, consulting firms, and family-owned businesses, and allows us to support clients wherever their business is based.

Mission Statement

To deliver sophisticated retirement plan strategies with the technical depth they demand and the clarity our clients deserve, helping business owners reduce tax OUR MISSION To deliver sophisticated retirement plan strategies with the technical depth they demand and the clarity our clients deserve, helping business owners reduce tax liability, secure their own retirement, and build lasting benefits for the people who work alongside them.

Our Core Pillars

  • Regulatory Compliance

Every plan we administer satisfies the full regulatory framework: the Internal Revenue Code, ERISA, Department of Labor requirements, and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation oversight where applicable. Compliance is not a feature of our work. It is the foundation.

  • Actuarial Expertise

Credentialed actuarial analysis is a rare commodity in the third-party administrator industry. With approximately 3,500 enrolled actuaries currently practicing in the United States, the presence of one signing every plan we deliver is the technical anchor that allows us to design strategies others cannot.

  • Tax Optimization

Plan design is calibrated to maximize allowable tax deductions and employer financial benefits while satisfying every nondiscrimination test. This is where our methodology, which combines DB-driven design with pooled non-highly-compensated employee funding, produces outcomes that conventional designs cannot match.

  • Employee Retirement Security

A qualified plan is only as strong as the benefit it delivers to the people who work in the business. Our plans are structured to build genuine retirement value for every participant, not just for the owners. We believe this is both an ethical obligation and the foundation of long-term plan sustainability.

Why Sophisticated Advisors Refer
Their Top Clients to Us.

Most third-party administrators are processing operations. They take in census data, run standardized calculations, and deliver standardized plans. That model works for routine 401(k) administration. It does not work for business owners whose tax and retirement needs are anything but routine.
